Congo (2005)
Congo by Train
Ready for departure at the Madingou train station
Our train arrives
The heat and humidity are overwhelming
Our first stop: back in N'kayi
As you can see from the guy sitting across the aisle from Pascal (and behind Bernard below), the train was heavily guarded for the journey all the way to Pointe Noire on the coast.
These look like Iowa corn fields, but it's actually much taller sugar cane
The train's conductor at work
Pulling in to the next station, vendors and passengers ready to swarm the train
We'd spend the next 10 hours or so on the front of the locomotive
These shots are all taken from the front of the locomotive as the train is in motion
Bernard speaks with the military police Lieutenant in charge of train security
What happens when you get caught riding without a ticket (after they rough you up a bit)
