Parasailing is a very simple concept: A speedboat in the water pulls the rope (fast), which in turn causes me to run (fast), thus creating enough airflow for the chute behind me to lift me up...
No one ever mentions how uncomfortable all of this really is!
Run! Run! Run!
I thought we were going airborne
I was wrong
Oh no!
Believe it or not, that really hurt!
Airborne at last
Yeehaw!
You can't tell from the picture, but I'm dropping towards the beach like a rock. I literally thought I was going to break my legs.
Aaaaaaargh! The landing was so rough that my heels were bruised for several weeks.
Now it's Chandi's turn. She's pretty freaked out about it, but you have to hand it to her for actually going through with it!
Her final preparations
Up in the air! You'll notice that a Thai guy goes up with every jump. He just hangs out in the wires with no safety harness or anything, and his role is to steer the chute and brake for the landing.
Chandi buzzes the beach crowd...
...floats above the sand...
...and lands as softly as a feather! (Now why couldn't they have done that for me?!)
